Fifth-grade Chorus Performs “Rats”

The fifth-grade chorus at Townline and the School of Dual Language performed “Rats”. This musical tells the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. But in this version, the rats are quite adorable.

Message Regarding National School Walkouts

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Today I reach out to you as a follow-up to my February 27th letter concerning the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. We continue to hold the victims and their families in our hearts and prayers.

There is a national social media movement underway for students to protest school violence by walking out of class on March 14th and April 20th.  These walkouts have been advertised for specific times for students to participate. It is our plan for All Hawthorn School District 73 students and staff to remain in school. (Continued)

Estimados padres y guardianes,

Joyful Learning Projects

Students in Miss Peterson’s third grade class presented their Joyful Learning Projects. Students got to choose a topic that interests them, learn and practice research skills, and create an informational text book for their classmates. Additionally, they created a visual, such as a poster, to present to the class. The topics selected were very creative, ranging from defunct rides at Great America to sea turtles.

School Safety Update

All our thoughts recently have been about school safety and mourning the tragic deaths of the students in Florida. This has created important and difficult conversations surrounding violence in our society, and then the one that has always kept me up at night — keeping our students safe at school. This has always been true for me, not just in light of the most recent tragedy.

Hawthorn has a very good working relationship with the Vernon Hills Police Department. We have a school resource officer on campus every day. The resource officer works with all staff to monitor situations, communicate with the police department as needed and help work with families, staff, community, and students in a constructive manner. ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
