A Letter from Dr. Haack

Hello Townline families,

Here are some details about the happenings at Townline!

Conferences

Conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 25 and Tuesday, November 26.  If you have not yet signed up for a conference with your child’s teacher, please contact your child’s teacher directly as soon as possible.

Report Cards

On November 26th, we will share instructions for how you may access your child’s report card via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Once you log into this secure, user-friendly portal, you may easily open and even download your child’s report card. In preparation, you may want to visit the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://ps.hawthorn73.org/public and log into your secure account. If you do not remember your username or password, please click “Forgot username or password?” on the PowerSchool Parent Portal homescreen. Please note that you need to use a web browser for this to work and Chrome has been the most successful browser to use when viewing report cards in the parent portal.

If you would prefer to receive a paper copy of your child’s report card, please contact our main office at 847.990.4901  and we will print one for you. We are looking forward to providing you with easy access to your child’s progress reports via electronic reporting!

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is full of treasures.  Please stop by to look for lost coats, shirts, hats, gloves, lunchboxes, water bottles and more.  The lost and found will be out near the book fair on the main level during conferences. Items not claimed will be donated during winter break.

Food Drive

Our school food drive is up and running and we need your help.  Please consider donating non-perishable food items or basic toiletry needs such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and toilet paper.  The food drive runs through December 3. All donations will stay local and be given to the Sharing Hands Food Pantry in Vernon Hills.

Book Fair

The PTO Scholastic Book Fair will be open during conferences on Monday, November 25 and November 26.  The hours for the book fair are Monday, 3pm-8pm and Tuesday, 8am-10am. We hope you can stop by and find a good book for your child.

Art Adventure

Here is another opportunity for you to volunteer in your child’s class. Second lesson of Art Adventure is round the corner and here is the sign-up link for you.  Please consider doing an art adventure lesson in your child’s class.

Weather

Winter seems to have come early this year.  Please note that we go outside if the temperature and wind chill is at or above 10 degrees.  Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. In order for a student to play in the snow, they must wear a coat, boots, hat, gloves and snow pants.  If students do not have all of these items, they will be limited to the blacktop area.

Kindergarten students at Townline Elementary received a special treat today. Mike Caplan, meteorologist with Fox 32, talked with them about the different kinds of weather, weather safety and even showed a video of a tornado. Friendly and funny, he had the full attention of the students.

More School Flags to Fly in Antarctica

Townline Elementary and the School of Dual Language are the latest schools to provide flags to be flown in Antarctica. Aspen Elementary, Middle School North and several other local schools also provided flags to Air National Guard Chaplain (Lt. Col.) James Buckman, pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Lake Forest. He and other Air Guard personnel will travel to Antarctica next week to support a group of scientists who will be working at the South Pole for 40 days. He will fly the flags while he is stationed there.

Dr. Haack’s Halloween Information Letter

Hello Townline Families,

There’s a chill in the air and there are pumpkins in the patch! We are looking forward to the Halloween festivities at Townline Elementary School on October 31st. Following lunch/recess, students will dress in costume for a school-wide Halloween parade. After the parade, students will return to homerooms for their PTO sponsored room parties for the remainder of the afternoon.

Costume Guidelines

Please keep safety, comfort and fun in mind when planning a costume.  Our school is building a culture of peace and kindness. If your child’s costume contains any kind of pretend weapon or scary elements, please leave them at home until neighborhood trick-or-treating. All students should bring their costumes to school in a bag. Hair color should not be used at school (It is messy!) Make-up needs to be minimal and applied in 1-2 minutes by the students themselves without leaving the room. NO FAKE BLOOD! Children should be able to put on their costume without adult help. If the costume requires elaborate costuming or make up, please save that for the neighborhood trick-or-treat. Please adhere to the school dress code guidelines.

Treat Guidelines

Please do not send any treats/candy for the parties.  This is a new guideline agreed to by our PTO and administrative team.

Parade

If the weather permits, we will have an outdoor costume parade for K – 5th grades. If you are available to attend, please join us. In the event of rain, we will have the parade inside the school. Unfortunately, we don’t have space for parents to observe inside the school. Parking will be limited so please use the Middle School North parking lot and carpool. Let’s all hope for great weather! Kindergarten – 5th grades: 1:45-2:10 p.m. Grade K-5 will exit the east doors on Aspen Drive. 5th grade will lead the parade followed by 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, and then Kindergarten. The children will parade along Aspen Drive and then onto the sidewalk in front of the building. The students will re-enter through the west door main entrance. Please find a location along the parade route for pictures!

Warm regards,

Dr. Haack
